Kracie Poppin Cookin

2015/11/img_99302.jpg
Earlier this week, my sister made gummy zoo animals using a Kracie Popin Cookin kit. I filmed the process and made a small clip:

I bought it from Tomodachi at the Mall of America (Bloomington, MN) as a souvenir. My sister has been watching these little videos for a few years already but we never saw them available in stores! They can be found online via Amazon (prime shipping!) or cheaper but it would take up to a month to be delivered versus two days.

Do you know if there’s any U.S. versions available? I wish I had these candy kits while I was growing up!

7 Things I Learned During My First Dermatologist Appointment

1. I should’ve been going to the dermatologist for a long time, I could’ve gotten rid of my acne years ago!

2. Those crazy-fast-talking-scientist types of men who have a passion for what they work on do exist out here in the real world. I almost couldn’t understand what my dermatologist was saying because he was so into trying to push out all this information.

3. Dairy (from actual cows) does lead to acne and if we want to avoid it we can drink soy or almond milk instead.

4. Ok so I knew about this one, but I pretended it wasn’t true for my love of junk food; sugary foods lead to acne.

5. They examine basically all of your skin…even between your toes!

6. I’ve been buying and trying different over the counter type of cleansers and washes for no reason! 2015/10/img_8786.jpgThe picture shows all the products I had been using twice daily (except for the clay mask, that was once a week) on the left, and then the little samples I received today that I will only be using from now on in the circle to the right. 🙂

This would’ve saved me so much more room (and money from purchasing all the products) when packing toiletries by carrying just 2 travel sized products instead of packing like 7 different things into smaller containers just to shove into an overfilling travel case! I had to ask him, “So do I just stop using everything I was using before like; toner, cleanser, clay masks, etc.” And he replied with a simple yes!

7. I really had to wait almost 2 months just to strip, be examined in 60 seconds, and then handed some samples and given a few minutes lecture on what causes acne and how I can internally prevent some of it that probably could have been explained by John and Hank Green in a YouTube video.

So if you’re thinking of going to see a dermatologist for skin problems (or acne like me), definitely do it! No matter what it leads up to, you’ll come out of the office happy and optimistic for your potential healing or skin changes.

TJMaxx Preppy Finds!

IMG_6925Today I came to TJMaxx in a desperate attempt to buy a pencil pouch for college (classes start in a week!) I ended up coming home with a new journal, water bottle, makeup brush bag, a comfy sweatshirt, lounge tee, and drawstring joggers…yikes! But the extra grabs were totally worth it, I’ll thank myself during finals week. The clothes I’ll probably feature in a separate master Back-to-School post!
IMG_6929“She looks for ADVENTURE around every corner Journal” ($4.99)
This journal caught my attention because my friends always love bringing me along places because apparently I turn every little thing into an adventure. I can easily get excited over things like going to target or buying bread from the grocery store…don’t act like you don’t do the same!!!
The majority of the journals in TJMaxx’s stationery section were wanderlust or travel-related, which made me SOO happy to have shopped today. I even recognized most of the cute little quotes on some covers.

IMG_6928Bubba – Insulated Water Bottle ($9.99)
Guys, this is seriously such a cute combination of colors AND it came with a second straw! Like it’s so nice to be able to replace one while the other is being washed and dried or just save it until the first one breaks.

IMG_6927Tender Love + Carry – Makeup Brush Bag ($4.99)
Not only is their brand name totally cute, their bags are too! I rarely have come across them in person but they are sold online in other countries like New Zealand and Australia. I’m going to use this as a little pencil pouch instead so I don’t start hoarding supplies in my backpack this year 🙂

Let me know if you have any questions or find similar items anywhere else! Especially makeup bags that can be used as pencil pouches!

The Teenager’s Guide to Traveling on a Bus for 6 Days

IMG_5272
Taken while our bus was departing New York City.

Hey! It’s been a while and I’ve finally decided to look over my journal entries from the summer and put them online. This is the 1st part out of my 6-part traveling series, do you have any more bus experiences to add on to mine? The next one will be about why Canada–the second country I’ve ever been to–was cool to explore!

DO

-use the restroom at every stop or whenever you can because something may happen and who knows when you’ll be able to see another one (plus avoid the bus bathroom, I’m so grateful I never needed to use it but others told me it smells)

-not care about how stupid you think it looks when you’re wearing it, a memory foam neck pillow is your best friend if you’re going to sleep on long rides… I mean, unless you like a sore neck

IMG_6304
My makeshift drink holder.

-bring an ebook device, get a head start on your summer assignments, or read that new dystopian book you’ve been meaning to!

-keep spare plastic bags, our seats didn’t have cup holders so it was a handy way to reuse it

-pack an iPod and headphones to help you think of better things than being stuck on a bus for who knows how long

-buy yourself portable charger(s) this is a must, especially if you have an iPhone

-maintain an optimistic outlook

-bring snacks, both healthy and too-good-to-be-true ones

DONT

IMG_6138
Someone on their iPad.

-be that person who turns their screen brightness all the way (and avoid using it in the dark), there may be people behind you whose eyes are being very discomforted by it, especially after a long day of being out and about

-meet back up at the bus late everytime

Dear Upcoming Seniors 2016

Hey guys! So my last official day of high school is approaching fast and I’d like to get a list out there of the dos and don’ts I’ve learned so far. I’ve organized my scrambled thoughts into a few categories; for your senior year, for the SATs, for college mail, for your paperwork, etc. I’ll definitely keep adding to and revising this list until it covers all you should know!
IMG_2470-3
FOR SENIOR YEAR (AT SCHOOL):
Do:
•go to school events, you don’t need to go to everything but try everything you’re interested in at least once, you never know, you might just stick to it.
•challenge yourself, I mean, you’re going to attend college in a year, you have to be prepared! Take an AP if you haven’t considered doing so already or try dual enrollment! I highly encourage dual enrollment because I was able to meet more people, see what a college environment was actually like, and get high school credit at the same time! Let’s not forget about the access your college student ID grants you too, to places like the gym, library, discounts, etc.
•get enough sleep…I’ve probably slept 5-6 hours a night for the past two months…
Don’t:
•procrastinate too much. I definitely procrastinated and still do it A LOTTT A LOTTTT but I realize now that it’s a little problematic. I passed things in online on nights of the days they were due… Or even worse. And it just kills your time… oops

FOR THE SATS:
Do:
•Take it ASAP or if you still have time the end of this year, at least once junior year and once or twice your senior year!
•Try a college/SAT preparation program, even if you are already content with your score(s) because you’ll still be practicing and maybe even learn things you didn’t notice before!
Don’t:
•say “I’ll just show up and take the test” please please please prepare yourself, even one question a day could help!

FOR COLLEGE MAIL:
Do:
•Respond to “FREE T-Shirt” promotions by colleges in return for your basic information. I’ve gotten a few thanks to this and they’re so comfy to sleep or lounge around in. Did I mention they’re FREE?
•Try to open the brochures and letters you receive when you do because I once got this letter and ignored it until things piled up, I opened it and saw that if I was one of the first 200 students to complete a one/two-minute survey for them, I’d get $5.00 Amazon credit.
Don’t:
•sign up for too many emails/address-required college things, they WILL share your information and continue to spam until you go and contact them or click unsubscribe in your email settings

FOR YOUR PAPERWORK:
Do:
•organizer a binder consisting of: colleges you’re applying to and got accepted to, scholarships you’re applying to and received, financial aid information, your HS transcript, (unofficial) SAT/ACT scores, recommendation letters, and make a few copies of each document and put them into clear plastic slips so you can easily send them out to wherever you need to.
Don’t:
•lose or misplace important documents. This will definitely become a hassle and you’ll end up wasting too much time looking for things instead of getting them done.

SAT Up – SAT Prep App

20140422-232256.jpgIt’s free in the App Store (apple). I tried it out for a few days and ended up “unlocking” it for $1.99 (sale price). You basically set up your profile and choose how you want to practice by subject (math/critical reading/writing), the # of questions per practice, (and difficulty if you unlock it).

20140422-232127.jpg There’s an onscreen scratchpad and calculator so you don’t need to grab anything.
20140422-232210.jpg20140422-232153.jpg20140422-232140.jpg
Multiple choice/short answer questions have solutions. The app tracks your progress & sections of subjects you should focus on improving.
